Avant Garde Placemaking
Kimberli has used her interest in psychogeography and heritage to guide her research throughout this commission. She had chosen to seek out the stories of lost art, buildings, and people. Through archival investigation and speaking with the Basildon community, Kimberli created a Basildon Culture Mile, that utilizes wayfinding through existing landmarks, to draw attention to place identity and trigger further conversation about the sense of belonging. She used recorded interviews from a performance piece that took place on a well known bus route between Pitsea and Basildon, to use in a finished film that tells the story of her findings.
A film that highlights the use of wayfinding and signage placing identity on landmarks, and navigation of place and people.
