Artists Bio
I’m Michael Young and I’m an Essex based Illustrator and Artist. Ever since I was a kid I have been putting marks on paper and could always be found, pencil in hand, scribbling the world around me.
After developing my illustration services business, Family Scribbles, for a few years, in October 2021, I left my full time job in Insurance to become a full time freelance illustrator and artist. In Family Scribbles, I produce illustrated family portraits and am enjoying designing logos, children’s books, animation and even interactive art installations.

I was an illustrator and developer on this animated short film about a young black boy and he’s sudden upheaval and move from his childhood home in Brixton to Basildon, the reasons behind it and the struggles he faces.

Commissioned by The Christmas Carol Experience in Colchester
A Christmas Carol retold in a narrated musical audio-experience by an array of exciting local artists, twelve previously empty shops will be reanimated and brought together in a magical Festive Trail winding through the chapters of the classic story. I will be creating a scene from chapter 5 - at Old Fezziwig’s Ball.

Boketto isn’t your conventional picture book. Its a Heartwarming story with incredibly important and uplifting messages of Japanese wisdom and culture delicately woven into the events of one night, where a young girl stares out of her bedroom window and curious things begin to happen.
Artist Mike Young created a series of illustrations celebrating the community of the high street, collecting stories and creating this innovative way to collect limited addition art works while learning about Billericay high street History at he same time.
Pick up a matchbox from the Creative Basildon Stall opposite the Red Lion Pub in front of Paul Robinson and in trail shops, Mike also has a stall in the Library where you can chat about the project.
The Field Artist programme Cohort 001 took place in Summer 2022. Creative Basildon commissioned six artists to explore communities within the wider Borough of Basildon.
